Making the Dunya Serve You, Not Control You

A key theme of the khutbah is the distinction between having the dunya in one’s hand versus in one’s heart. If it is in the hand, the person is in control and uses resources responsibly for Allah’s pleasure; if it is in the heart, it controls behaviour, priorities, and identity.
