Just before Fajr on Thursday 5th April, Alláh reclaimed one more of his beloved servants. Haji Omar Tarhuni was to his family, a devoted husband and loving father. We all knew him, not only as the leader of our small community.
Who are these friends of Alláh? Why are they considered to be a special category of Believers? Is it possible for ordinary Muslims like us, to become Friends of Alláh? And what must we do, to earn this high and rare distinction?
Then we switch off the television, and we turn to our Lord, and pray, When will we see the help of Alláh? When will there come relief from this pain and suffering?
Our noble ancestors were often greatly outnumbered by their enemies, yet Allah granted them spectacular victories, so that you and I, and our children and grandchildren, could learn the value of iman and taqwa and of entrusting our affairs totally and wholeheartedly to Allah.
Whatever we choose to do as a career, we can certainly do it better by mastering the skill of good communication. But we must understand the power of words, and we must harness that power, in order to serve our wider responsibilities, and to serve Alláh…
In a few hours, if it pleases Alláh, we will see the passing of another year, another century, and another Millennium, by the Gregorian calendar. There have been many frightening predictions about this historic moment.
